The Bricks May Have Fallen...

St.Bernard Group Shot

but they will be rebuilt.

As a way to share our passion for community involvement, W&G teamed up with the St. Bernard Project in order to continue our efforts to reach out to the community and to allow our summer interns to become involved in these rewarding efforts. The St. Bernard Project is a national long-term disaster recovery organization whose mission is to ensure that communities at risk of, or impacted by, disasters have the resources to prepare and recover in the most prompt, efficient and predictable way possible.

W&G, the St. Bernard Project and AmeriCorps helped a New Jersey family rebuild what was damaged by Super Storm. We will always continue reaching out to the community and doing our part to provide support and hope.

The Ronald McDonald House Provides A "Home Away From Home"...

Show Stripes 6by helping families stay close to their child.

Being in a hospital presents us with a feeling of anxiety and powerlessness. Just imagine how much scarier the feeling is for a child – especially when their parents are far away from them.

Wilkin & Guttenplan showed support by joining NJCPA’s “Month of Service” in May which involved the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC). To help bring calm to both parent and child, RMHC created a “home away from home” program to help keep families together during these burden-filled times. Since 1974 a network of local RMHC chapters offer supportive environments where family members are able to stay together in a comfortable home-like setting during the course of their child’s treatment.

To help push community involvement, their Show Us Your Stripes initiative involves the purchase of red-and-white striped socks or shirts for $5 and $10 with the proceeds benefitting the RMHC. The generosity given to this program has enabled support to families for more than a quarter of a century.

Additionally as part of NJCPA’s “Month of Service”, W&G participated in the Caring Cooks Program with the Ronald McDonald House by sponsoring a Cinco De Mayo themed family dinner. W&G volunteers put on their chef-du-jour hats and whipped up a menu of tacos, corn and black bean salad, corn bread, fancy rice, cheesecake and more!

Going Red for Women

IMG 0246Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women – mothers, sisters, daughters, and friends.

  • Heart disease causes 1 in 3 women’s deaths each year, killing approximately 1 woman every minute.
  • Under age 50, women’s heart attacks are twice as likely as men’s to be fatal.
  • 90% of women have 1 or more risk factors for developing heart disease.
  • 42% of women who have heart attacks die within 1 year, compared to 24% of men.
  • Women comprise only 24% of participation in all heart-related studies1

On Friday, February 6th, the W&G staff supported the American Heart Association (AHA) in the fight against heart disease by wearing red for National Wear Red Day. Red hearts were available for those who made a donation and encouraged to write a name in memory of a loved one, in support of a loved one, or just their own name on the heart. The collected donations were sent to the American Heart Association to help fund their research and support women suffering from heart disease.

W&G looks forward to participating again in the AHA’s efforts next year. For additional information about National Wear Red Day, please click here.

Red Cross Adopt-A-Unit Program

AdoptAUnit 1

We can’t thank our courageous troops enough for their day-to-day sacrifices to protect us. For those who may be unaware, within the past few months several National Guard units were deployed from New Jersey. So in an effort to let them know just how thankful we are for their noble service, this November 2014, W&G linked with Red Cross again to participate in their Adopt-A-Unit Program as a way of saying “we support you.

A list of requested items, ranging from snacks to travel games to health care products to items as basic as chapstick, were fulfilled by many of our staff. Giving them the comfort they need - no matter how simple! - gives us a wonderful feeling that we are helping to make difference for our courageous troops.

We continue to look forward to participating in Red Cross's Adopt-A-Units' initiative next year!

Community FoodBank of New Jersey

IMG 0675

Many families struggle to meet the basic necessities in life such as being able to afford food or making a decision between “do I not eat in order for me to have enough money for medication?”.

In July, the National Association for Industrial and Office Parks (NAIOP) extended an opportunity to Wilkin & Guttenplan to join forces together and volunteer at the Community FoodBank of New Jersey facility in Hillside, NJ. By collecting food donations and/or sorting and packing boxes of goods, we were able to aid the Community FoodBank in their efforts to feed the hungry.

As a result of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey’s combined efforts, they feed 900,000 people in 18 New Jersey counties. To give back whenever possible is truly a rewarding feeling and W&G is proud to help in their growing mission.
