"I really love the opportunity to work
independently and assume increasing levels of responsibility.
The way the firm is structured, new staff members have the
opportunity to contribute right away and everyone is exposed
to a lot of training opportunities. It builds a person's confidence
when they know a firm is willing to make that kind of continuing
investment in their success...I came from a smaller firm,
and they just didn't have the resources to keep me challenged
and feeling like I was growing professionally. It's a real
contrast to my 5 years here-where I've definitely seen a commitment
to 'career-long learning'. And it shows up in the way you
exceed client expectations. Because I have a greater sense
of ownership and responsibility for what I do for a client,
I want to make sure I am always doing everything I possibly
can to ensure their satisfaction.
The firm has formalized this process. Ed Guttenplan, the
Managing Shareholder, developed, and personally supervises,
the firm's A+ Program as an internal management/leadership
development effort. We have a reading list and we meet to
discuss what we've read. The participants are also assigned
to "task forces" to work on projects that benefit
the firm as a whole. We each have to write an article for
a publication-either a trade or professional journal or the
firm's client newsletter. And-part of the program requires
us to join a community or civic organization to ensure we
understand that we aren't just W&G employees-leaders understand
the importance of bettering the places where they live and
work. To me this program is another of the many reasons that
I feel I have so many opportunities to develop my personal
and professional potential." |
