Edward Guttenplan, CPA, CGMA, MBA, has named a winner on the inaugural NJBiz ICON Honor Awards! This award is presented to leaders who have a proven track record of success and a proven ability to lead, inspire, and teach others in their industry and the state.
“ I have always believed that the most important thing I could do as a leader is to develop the next generation coming up the ranks, ” Ed says, when asked about his passion in leadership. “ My mission is to help them discover how to be the best version of themselves and how to use that to identify and follow their pathway to success, happiness, and fulfillment for themselves, our firm, and our clients.”
The NJCPA recognizes individuals that are dedicated and committed to advancing diversity and inclusion issues within the accounting profession and, in many cases, personally mentoring staff to leadership roles in the industry or students to follow an accounting path. Congratulations Ed!
Edward Guttenplan, CPA, CGMA, MBA, has been name President of the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJCPA), and began his one-year term on June 1, 2017.
“There is an organization called the NJCPA whose mission is to make life better for the NJCPA members and the accounting profession,” says Ed. “I think that we all need to give back to those institutions that take care of us and provide support for us. I don’t want to be a net-taker in the world, I want to be a net-giver, and since this is my profession, I should be supporting it in any way I can.”
The NJCPA is the fourth largest business and professional association in NJ and the ninth largest state CPA society in the country. Ed Guttenplan joined the New Jersey Society of CPAs in 1981. He served as a trustee for both the NJCPA Board of Trustees and NJCPA Education Foundation and most currently as the secretary for the NJCPA Board of Trustees. He has also been a member of the NJCPA Student Programs & Scholarships, Human Resources, CPE, Special Awards committees and various other initiatives. Guttenplan is a recipient of the NJCPA Distinguished Service Merit Coin - Standard of Excellence Recognition as well as Recipient of the NJCPA 2004/2005 Leadership Award. In the Middlesex/Somerset Chapter, he has served as treasurer, secretary, vice president and president.
