Wilkin & Guttenplan (“W&G”) believes in the power of doing good things. Our commitment to continuously foster an environment that provides both professional and personal growth not only stays within our corporate walls, it expands outward. This is how “We Give” came into fruition.
Throughout the year, W&G allows its’ employees to give their time and energy to build meaningful opportunities within communities. By tapping into shared passions, our people are inspired to improve and give through leadership and philanthropic efforts one neighborhood at a time. Some of the organizations selected by our internal committee include:
Susan G. Komen: Every October, W&G participates in in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure (“RFTC”) at Six Flags Great Adventure. The firm sponsors a corporate team and covers the cost of staff and their guests. Additionally, We Give spends months prior to RFTC raising awareness and organizing funds raisers for breast cancer research and education.
Lakeview School: The Lakeview School, which is part of the New Jersey Institute for Disabilities, is an approved private school for children with multiple disabilities ages three to twenty-one. The school provides academics, pre-vocational, and daily living skills programs to its students, as well as any medical, nursing or therapeutic services as needed. Over the past year, W&G has participated in several of the Lakeview School’s “Days of Caring”. During these Days of Caring, our staff assisted teachers and aides at Lakeview with day to day activities in a hands-on environment with students, as well as helping with other administrative or maintenance functions that need to be carried out throughout the campus. W&G also participates in a gift drive for the Lakeview School during the holiday season.
Ronald McDonald House: The firm has partnered with the Ronald McDonald House Charity of New Brunswick (“RMHC”) to support their mission to create a “home away from home” for families who have a child receiving hospital treatment as a result of serious illness or injury. W&G participated in the RMHC’s “Caring Cooks Program” by preparing meals for the families as well as the “Show Your Stripes Program” - where all proceeds of purchased red and white striped socks were given to the RMHC. Additionally, W&G actively collects pop tabs- over fifteen pounds to date- which the RMHC recycles to raise additional funds for the organization.
Other Initiatives: Each year W&G partners with organizations throughout our local area to give back to the community. These organizations include Holiday Express and Elijah’s Promise. W&G also hosts an annual blood drive with the American Red Cross each summer which is open to the staff, their families, and the public. On a smaller scale the firm has partnered with others in the community, such as each winter when members of the firm, interns through partners, gather in a room to make Valentine’s Day cards for a local senior housing/assisted living facility to brighten their day. The cards truly displayed that accountants can have a creative side too!
Corporate social responsibility is ingrained in our corporate values and plays a big part of our firm. We simply believe in investing in the communities where we do business…
…because we firmly believe that strong companies build strong communities.
